What is the consensus on break-in for new outboards...easy break in or drive it like ya hate it type of break in?

I have a new boat coming (Merc 60 4 stroke efi) and I am curious what most have done. I typically break in my dirt bikes after a new top end by warming it up good and making several high gear, low speed pulls to seat the rings (puts more load on the rings). Than let her cool down and ride it like ya stole it. Never have any issues. :) I know an outboard is different but a motor is a motor. What have you guys done or what do you recommend?

Hi,

Well if you are going to not idle or troll with it then I guess you could run it like you stole it. I have found that if you break it in like the owners manual says your engine will work better overall so I would follow the book. You engine takes twice as long to be broken in than the owners manual says anyway.
I have done it both ways. Now a days I know the engineers that wrote the book are smarter than me so I follow the book.
