Been dying to get a Hurricane Deck Boat and have it down to these 2 choices. The new one is about $4k more and has a Mercury Opti 150hp on it. The 2008 has a 200Hp Yamaha on it. Anybody know the difference between these 2 models. I think the FD GS is now the SS 194 or at least they look identical in pics.
Any comments appreciated
Thanks

Yea Hurricane has this weird habit of changing the model numbers and naming systems for their boats year to year. The old Fun Deck (FD) series is now the Sundeck Sport (SS). I own a 2010 Sundeck 2100, which is the only year they used that particular designation, all other years that model boat is a Sundeck 217???? Why, other than to confuse their customers, I don't know.

Anyhow I think you are right the 2 boats you are looking at have identical hulls. They occasionally change the instrument console, but pretty much everything else will be the same. Hurricane has not changed the hull design of their boats, ever to my knowledge. So you will get the exact same ride on either boat, of course the one with the 200 hp engine will give you lots more speed (into the mid 50's at least would be my guess). The new one with the 150 will be slower.

There is a guy on this forum, NelsonQ, that has that exact boat with a 200 hp engine on it. If he does not respond, PM him. He is very knowledgeable and can tell you everything you need to know about that model.

Thanks. How do you like the Yamaha outboard. That is the exact model that the 200 is in my description?

My Yamaha F150 4 stroke has been flawless through 2 seasons. I'm doing all my own maintenance, and it is a fairly easy engine to work on. It's also fuel efficient, and very quiet for an outboard (you can't hear it at idle). I think the Mercury Opti 150 is a 2 stroke engine, so I don't know how it compares. If the Yamaha engine you mentioned is the F200 it is a V6 4 stroke, and I've heard very good things about it.

Good luck on your purchase. We looked to buy used, but used Hurricanes are tough to find. We ended up getting a good deal on a new boat and have been having a blast ever since.

Yes. I ended up getting a the 2008 with the Yamaha F200 4 stroke on it. You are right about it being tough to find used Hurricanes

Thanks

Missed this thread but you could go wrong with either selection. Expect the F200 to push you and the 194 in the high 40's to low/mid 50s depending on how its prop'd.

Used Hurricanes, at least here North of the 49th parallel don't last at all.
