Howdy,

I just bought a new 2011 Glastron GT 205 to replace my old 1987 Searay. The Searay had closed cooling so I felt more comfortable using it in salt water. The Glastron has the 4.3 merc with raw sea water cooling the engine.

I know I need to flush the engine/outdrive after each use in the salt water. What else do I need to do or look out for?

Also, are there any paticular issues with the Glastron GTs that I should know about?

Thanks, JTC

You'll need to replace manifolds and risers every 6 years or so. Outdrive anodes when they're more than 1/3 eaten up. The motor will last 20 years plus, especially if you're flushing it regularly.

Wash the boat after every use. wash the trailer and breaks big time.. keep wax on it. Flush flush and more flush.. you will have years of great enjoyment.

...or since it is brand new, you could install FWC...

I boat in salt water almost every time out and have been able to keep my boat looking and running great. I simply flush after every use, rinse and wash down the boat and trailer entirely. I use a boat wash each time, too, as water alone does not really clean well. I also dry off the boat after washing to make it look good and to insure all of the salt is off. I keep plenty of wax on my boat, protect the vinyl seats and interior with marine protectant also. Salt water is no problem as long as rinse, flush and clean religiously.

I've had a few boats in salt water and there is no issue whatsoever so long as you flush, wash, flush, wash. I use a power washer on the trailer and boat to speed things up. Just don't use the super powerful nozzle on the gel coat.
