I just bought a new 150 Mercury Salt Water Carb. I'm in the breaking in period and have about 3 hours on it. After running it as recomended by manuel with different speeds, I decided to touch the water coming out of the t-tale after 30 minutes or so and it like to burn my hand. It's so hot that I can't leave my hand in it for longer than a couple of seconds. IS THIS NORMAL? The alarm for over heating has never gone off. I was also reading on this board that if the prop is not pitched right, this could over heat the engine also. I brought it up to full throtle two times and got it to 5100 rpm's. I am also told that running the double oil during the break in period will not achieve an accurate rpm range and that it could be more accurate when I begin to run the 50:1 ratio. Is this true because it don't idle very good, it's very rough and smokey. I have a mirage plus prop pitched at 19", should I bring it back and exchange for a 17" or will my rpm's go up after the break in period. This prop also has 3 plugs on it, should these be removed for higher rpm's?? HELP PLEASE!

Also guys, sorry, it pulls to the right very badly even with the trim tab positioned all the way to the right which is not much on that particular motor. It only allows you to turn it a couple of degrees to the right. Also, am I correct, if the boat pulls to the right you turn the tab to the right facing the rear of the motor?

Vessel...

If you bought this new..or even used from a Merc dealer...you need to get them involved with the problems you are having. I believe the term is called "warranty". Make the mechanic go with you on a sea run so he can experience just what it's doing. Even if it all turns out to be ok...you shouldn't be charged anything. You've paid for this service when you bought the engine...don't hesitate to use it.

Walt
