I recently purchased a 1989 Sea Ray 220 DA. I had a Citation 230 cuddy cabin that I bought earlier this summer, but found I wanted more of a cabin cruiser. I fell in love with Sea Rays and had been looking all summer for one I could afford. I bought my 220 DA up in New Hampshire on Ebay. It was quite a trip from Marietta, Oh to New Hampshire to pick up the boat. Over 14 hours of driving. Quite an interesting trip back pulling the boat since I am not use to towing anything. My friend is a retired semi-truck driver and did a lot of the driving.
My Sea Ray needs some real scrubbing and cleaning. The burgandy strip is oxidized and we are starting on that. The folks that had the boat just used it and seemed not to take care of it except for the engine. The engine and bilge were very clean. The engine runs great and idles well. There was a leak which wasn't evident when I purchases the boat. The mechanic here removed the engine and resealed the transome bracket. He looked at the y pipe, but it looked fine. The boat was in saltwater. After putting the engine back in, the boat was still leaking! The mechanic had to remove the engine again and replaced the y pipe since it had a sizable hole in it. Fortunately I only paid for pulling the engine once!
We spent the weekend on the boat and running it - it is really a great boat. I am on plane at about 3000 rpm and going about 20 mph. Still using between 1-2 gallons per mile as far as I can tell. Guess from all my reading here, that is about normal.
Just wanted to tell someone how great the boat is and THANK everyone for their posts here. We have learned a lot reading about everyone elses boats. Learned a lot and have some great ideas about possible small changes to make on seating, etc.
