I have a 2004 Nissan 30 h.p, 4 cycle, electric start ,with electric tilt. Due to illness, I have never started or put it into the water. It was started when I bought it by the dealer. It has been stored undercover for over 5 years. I would appreciate any information and advise on starting this engine.
Thank you!

Just start it like you normally would(as per the owners manual).

You will have to follow break-in procedures outlined in your owner's manual. You should also consider replacing the water pump impeller since they get brittle sitting.

If it was run when you purchased it, be aware that at that time there was fuel in the carb which by now is long evaporated. As Elvin said, just start it and run it according to the manual and break it in just like you were going to 5 years ago. The impellor on that outboard should be good. Verify that you have a solid pee stream at high idle and enjoy her.

If you should run into any issues with quality of idle or running quality, it is possible that the original fuel gummed things up and may require a quick carb cleaning....

Assuming you didn't mean to never start it (and hense, never fogged it), I would advise to pull the plugs and spray a bit of fogger in there before turning it over, as any oil has long since settled back into the crankcase. Otherwise, start-er-up and go boating. Break in rules apply. Def don't over or under-shoot the 1st oil change, most important oil change you'll ever give it.
