Neutral safty switch

I broke and replaced my neutral safty switch but now the mayor only cranks when I put the lever n gear. Obviously I installed t wrong. Any ideas?

I really hate cranky mayors. Ed Koch was the worst!;)

Was this an exact replacement switch? Is it installed in exactly the same spot as the original? They have to be adjusted properly, as you are finding out.

Chances are the switch is a typical microswitch with three terminals, COMmon, NO (normally open) and NC (normanlly closed). One wire should go to the COM terminal. You probably have the NO and NC terminals backwards. When in neutral, the starter circuit is completed throught the safety switch allowing the motor to start. When in-gear, the safety switch interupts the starter circuit preventing the motor from starting.
