Neutral Safety Switch?

Are neutral switches located inside the throttle control? I took my lever off to clean up and slightly lube. One of the leads to a small switch or breaker gadget snapped off.
Is that the Neutral Switch? If so where can I get another one? Also what would happen if I bypassed the switch.

Thanks

Bill

Re: Neutral Safety Switch?

Wkoch,

that does sound like the neutral switch. can you solder the lead back on at all? If you bypass it, you may find that you are trying to start the engine while in gear. I wouldnt think that this would do your battery any good. Others may comment on any damage that might occur of trying to start while in gear. I would think that its similar to starting your car while in gear - apart from the fact that you cant bump-start a boat if you kill your battery. Not good if you are a small hole in a big ocean.

Maybe post your engine type/ number and see if anyone can help further.

Best of luck
T

Bill

If that's a side mount control you have for the Johnson Motor, you can get one below. You could bypass it, but really should fix it for the reasons Troy suggests. Dealer would have it, also.

web page

Thanks guys

Will check out the link

Can't fix the switch because the lead broke off right by the plastic casing.
Oh I have 19987 28hp Evinrude SPL.

This thing is no bigger than my thumbnail. Seem odd that it can do anything.

Bill
