Hey all,<br />I pulled the lower unit and replaced the water pump on my 74 Merc 500 50 hp outboard. Checked it today with muffs and have a good telltale stream, but the engine will start in gear. Neutral safety switch? Coincidence? I know the lower unit, shift shaft is right cause i have all three gears in the right place with the shifter. How hard is it to find/test/replace the NSS? Any advice welcome.
