Re: Alpha Gen II Won't Go Into Neutral - Shift Interrupt Cam Not Moving Enough

Re: Alpha Gen II Won't Go Into Neutral - Shift Interrupt Cam Not Moving Enough

as ya know, i'm no pro on genII.

but one question i'd have is with the new lower cable disconnected from the shift plate does the cable move as free as while on the bench?
can ya shift by hand from the end of the cable while someone turns the prop outside the boat. cable moving very freely.

does the shift shaft in the bell housing turn freely while by itself.

best i can do is bump ya up to the top for some real help...

anything i can do, give me a call...

The lower shift cable has about 3/8" end play in it naturally

Not normally, almost none. something is loose someplace. remove the drive and see if the lower arm looks like this pic.this is counter rotating so just reverse the "F" and "R"

If you have the screw (#11) holding the slide (#17) to tight, like it sounds like you do by the description below, Then this may be your problem, That slide need to have a LITTLE BIT of play.
It needs to move on the cable Back and forth a little (in & out) by backing off the screw just a little bit, It also needs to spin freely.
The measurement of play they want is talked about in the service manual.

You may want to double check that by pulling the drive off, Also double check the service manual. Good luck

2) The shift fork (in the bell housing) is tight to the cable with the set screw and safety wire. The end play between the cable and the fork is zero.

can ya shift it by hand from the end of the cable while someone turns the prop outside of the boat? the prop should lock up one way and click the other way?

Re: Nevermind

Not solved.

Probably won't be now that you removed the discription of what your problem is and what you are working on from your original post.
The word "Bonk" sure doesn't mean much to anyone.
