Ok all. I was just out in the garage moving a bunch of stuff around and getting the snow blower out to grease it when I hooked my foot in back of one of my net handles causing it to pop me in the back of the head..

which in turn caused a small fit of anxiety to get them up out of the way.

After getting things taken care of out there I came back inside poured a cup of coffee and sat down here and thought that I haven't seen any 'net' topics since I've been around.

So here we go guys and gals..

Are there any specific nets that you're partial to or maybe on a wish list for Christmas??

:)

I like those rubber ones with the small mesh, My neighbor has one and they don't rip the walleyes fins or tail. Wally world had them for awhile but I haven't seen them lately.

Yeah, what OMC said. They are less likely to snag lure hooks, too.

A word about "cradle" nets. I thought they were the cat's meow for a while, there. They allow you to treat big esox gently and keep them in the water for unhooking, etc. Fold up to a 3"x55" package for easy storage, too.

BUT

After losing a couple of very good muskies because they snagged the lure with the fish not in far enough to close on (one of them was my son's first 50+ incher) I stopped and got one of those hoop nets big enough for a danged whale with the rubberized large mesh.

Still one problem: Where in the heck do you store such a net in a 16-20' boat?

JB, I have one of those tube type upright rod holders mounted on my boat and thats where I keep my net so I don't keep tripping over it.

Would love a Frabil Big Kahuna net for Christmas, but won't get it. I'll never catch a fish big enough to justify a $129 net anyway.

well my most used net is a cast net, got to have live bait! and with the price of bait it has paid for its self many times.

Re: Nets ....

I Actually got one...Frabill puts out an awesome Gator net..Got mine at the Musky Show when they came to Columbus..MellowYellow has seen it..I think I paid 169 bucks for the biggest one they had on display..

Its a must for addicts like myself..The hooks will not get caught up in the net..A few here has seen some of the lumber I use..A 10" lure and a good size gator can cause a mighty ruckus in a net when trying to land one that is still green..

If I spend 30 bucks on a lure then ya know I am getting the best net out there..I caught a 45 incher this year and she fit well in the net..

Btw boat is away and I caught 11 this year all told..biggest was a 45 and I am not ging to talk about the inches on the down side..

Roscoe tell her its a live fish basket and see if that works...You know she will believe you cause a fisherman never lies.. :D

Re: Nets ....

My kids got me a net for fathers day this year (I believe from Cabelas) that folds up and is easily stored out of the way. Good for bass and trout but I wouldn't try landing a musky or northern in it.

Re: Nets ....

Nothing like a 3' radius throw net for catching bait fish in moderate to shallow water.

Oh you meant a landing net. I don't know. I kinda like the hard plastic cord nets, but mostly I like a long handle and a wide opening.
