I hate this - nice neighbors, we don't socialize w/ them, they younger w/ two under 5 yrs kids and always busy, I may say hi to him maybe once a week or two, just different hours.
He and one of their roommates(who does come over once in a while, I see him lots more)dropped my to have me sign the ok to have him install a deck etc in his backyard and mentioned borrowing my super CLEAN 2012 F150 Scab 4x4 to bring a lawn aerater (takes 2 to lift) to use at his house, said we could split it, but I'm not going to use it, have a service do it.
I didn't say yes or no, but as I think about it, I really don't want to, if he screws it up, dings, he doesn't have the money to fix, I even though I have full coverage - I just don't want the hassle, I'll have to kindly tell him we don't loan out our vehicles I believe, any of you bump into this before??

Thanks

Your truck, do as you wish.

I myself wont loan my truck out, however if someone needs to have something hauled, i usually drive and help. I also may ask for fuel depending on the trip.

As far as dents and scratches go, i consider my truck a tool. Its going to get a ding or two

I don't borrow out much of anything anymore. Seems every time I did, it would come back broken if it did come back at all. vehicles come back with an empty tank of fuel. One way I do it, I'm the driver, and I make sure to be involved in loading and stuff. One other option is if you have trailer, let them borrow that to transport the equipment.

I would have a hard time loaning out my nice truck .. Now if it was all beat up I might be more willing ..
Maybe you could drive and supervise the two of them loading and unloading it ..
But then they will want you to pick up the lumber and borrow your tools ..

Thanks guys, everything you said already had registered in my head, I MIGHT have driven and supervised if given that option, I just kept seeing the "oh crap we messed up your truck and can't afford any repairs" and quite frankly didn't appreciate the ASSUPMTION that he THOUGHT it would be a good idea to suggest the idea that he used my truck. Ummmm nooooooooooooo........told him we/I don't "loan out" our vehicles"

Back in the early 80's I bought a Dodge Ram from a used dealer that did the truck up to the nines. DeeZee chrome trim, chrome Crager wire wheels, new stereo system and new CB radio. The black paint was mirror like. My then father in law asked to borrow the truck a month after I got it. What was I to say "NO", after all I was sleeping with his little Princess. He used it to haul field stones for his outddoor oven. The box was trashed and had a broken leaf spring. I don't think he liked me much and I never lent any of my trucks out again. Cars yes, trucks no.

Anything I do loan out like tools and Golf clubs I must assume it as a gift as I generally have doubles in the case of golf clubs multiples, depending on lent to whom, or is it to who.

I realize you hate to say NO. BUT, once you allow that, you can bet it won't be the last time you get asked to borrow it again AND other things as well, because YOU set a precedence by saying yes!.

And since I don't borrow anything from anybody, I would have to tell them NO!!! I learned that every time I think about borrowed anything from anybody else, I also realized that if I break it, I would have to replace it as well.

So I BUY every tool I need now and add it to my collection. If I can't afford it, then I equally couldn't replace it either.

So NO would be the answer for such reasons. Never a borrower or lender be!

" Be not a lender nor a borrower be."

My brother asked where his blue wheelbarrow was as I had it last. He went on and on until he was blue in the face. Then his wife had to convince him it wasn't his it was actually mine that he borrowed 25 years ago. I got another from a yard sale 5 years after he permanently borrowed mine. Merry Xmas, Happy Birth Day kid. Half of his tackle box is tackle he "borrowed" from fishing buddies years ago (including I). It was at Dad that borrowed it from me through him. I gave him the beat up red one.

old Ironmaker, that reference to the beat up red one isn't referring the old Start Track series where the guys in the "red" outfits always died in the end is it? lol

Everytime I loan something out I have to go tracking it down afterwards. And its usually not in the shape I lent it out - damaged, torn, dented, what not.

I got tired of loaning stuff out so I now tell anyone that asks that its broken since the last time they borrowed it and it hasn't been repaired/replaced yet. Keeps my sanity!

So my answer on the truck would be no, hell no, gotta pry the keys from my dead body NO.

In Star Trek, anyone in a red uniform when they landed on a planet was a guaranteed death sentence. Anyone in blue or yellow survived to fight another day.

Our river house neighbors and I have developed a brotherhood pact. We help each other when someone needs an extra pair of hands, we loan tools back and forth, etc. It's all based on respect and trust. I got his kid's PWC running, and let him tap into our water when his well pump is feeling poorly. I've asked one to borrow his truck twice. I always return it with a full tank of gas and two packs of his favorite Pyramid cigs. I prefer being owed a favor vs. owing one.

there are four people that have the code to the house, know where spare keys are and where everything is. I do hate that sometimes I have to do a group text to find out where a tool is, but never have lost one long term.

as for your sit, that's what rental trucks are for.
