Found a used Yamaha 115hp it’s mounted on a boat. It’s a 2001 model. Last time ran was around 3 months ago. Guy is telling me we can bust it off in the water. Any input on these motors. Are they good? I’m wanting to take my mercury 115 off my boat and put this one. How hard would that be. It being two different brands?

Hate to mention it, but what looks to be a very high water line mark...would be a concern to me.
Otherwise all accounts suggest they are good engines...but depending on what you’re after...you will likely lose a little performance if you’re coming from a Merc 2 stroke. These Yamaha 4 strokes although very robust...are still of the old 4 stroke ways of being a little lazy. Timing cambelts are always a worry too. They are Stone Age things compared to the newer generation of mercury 4 strokes.

I’m after the dependability of a fourstroke. My merc 115 offshore hasn’t been preforming well last couple years. It pushes my challenger 19.5 ft 30 mph. I want little better performance. Also any advise on Suzuki four strokes around 05 year. I might have a line on one of those. Thanks again
