Ayuh,... It's a standard Marine starter,... Get 1 right here at iboats...

Just figure out if you have the straight across bolt pattern, or the Staggered pattern...

It will be the starter with the step on the mount. I think i will need one soon also, so i am thinking of ordering one.
I just looked and didnt see one that matches. I saw the stagger bolt pattern, and straight across bolt pattern, but not the 1 inch or so step. The starter is the same as an '87 Camaro. I know this cause the guy behind the counter and my local auto/marine store tried to hook me up with that. I walked away, he didnt seem to know the difference between marine and automotive.

Excuse my potentially stupid question, but are you saying you can or cannot use the camaro starter??

Nope,.... It's Suicidal..... It needs to be sparkshielded.... aka; Marine rated...

Btw,... What's this Stepped thing.... I know of Only 2 bolt patterns....

NO. i am not saying to use that starter. It needs to be marine rated. The starter itself, is the same on the outside, but the automotive one will NOT be spark prrof. Meaning, when you activate it, it will make small sparks which could ignite fumes in your bilge if they were present.

Bond-o, it has been a long time since i have had that starter out, and i dont recall clearly. I just remember that there was a step on the mount, on the starter. I am second guessing myself as to whether the step was on the inside, or the outside of the starter. Maybe it was on the outside. I do know that it was quite a common starter as my mechanic friend says he has seen many of them on automotive applications. Mark said he was going to post pics, so we'll see. I will check tonight when i get home, to be sure as i want to make sure i am contributing valid information.

Just googled it. I was wrong. The step is on the outside. I will try to attach a pic.

Great, it worked. Just remember, this is the Automotive version, NOT the marine rated. Same starter for the marine, it is Marinized though. I hope this is clear.

Is this the same starter you have Mark?

Bond-o, do you recognize this starter?
