Does anyone have an used or extra wrench to take the caps off the power/tilt. I have a Yamaha 225 hp 1999 and need to take the caps off the two extending pistion to replace the seals.

tgodiver--make your own, if you have an old wrench or piece of thin 1/8 inch iron or steel you can drill the two pin holes and use small bolts with nuts(holds them inplace and tight) or taper pins.

To others who might need this information. I was able to obtain a spanner wrench which comes with the seastar hydraulic repair kit that fits the tilt/units for yamaha. This wrench fits the yamaha but will not fit the Evinrude, it is off just a fraction.

Re: need wrench please?

Tgodiver, thats good info, I tried that once but I guess the seal wrench for the steering was not strong enough and broke. I have called Yammadog service and apparently the people who used to make their parts (kent moore) no longer have the yammadog contract. It is a different outfit now. I tried to get the cap remover from my local Yammadog dealer, gave them the name of the new tool makers and they told me it is a 4-5 week back order  Since there appears to be quite a few yammaha dealers here on this board perhaps someone can point me in the right direction. I did speak with a local omc shop that has a universal wrench on order that apparently is adjustable and fits most makes and models but it is not in yet. I need a wrench to service 2x1987 150 yamaha's, if anyone knows where to find one I am also interested. Thanks

One more thing, get different advice from different boat dealers. Some tried to sell me the entire caps which were an average of 18.00 each. But you can order the dust cap and the o-rings for and average of 8.00 per cylinders.
