Have a 96 kawasaki zxi 1100 that developed a hole in the exhaust manifold.

Am going to get it welded closed and would like the torque specs for the bolts and any available do's and don'ts before I get started.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Need torque specs.

http://www.nuttycompany.com/torque_chart.pdf

torque spec for any fastener (i.e. bolt or nut) is determined by the size thread of the fastener, the material of the fastener, and the material being clamped by it. If the clamped material is soft, weak, brittle then that will be the limiting factor as to how much you can torque the fastener to. Otherwise the torque is usually limited by the fastener itself- meaning you can only tighten it so much before it'll snap or the threads strip.

I don't know anything about your application but if you can't find the actual #'s from kawasaki then the link to torque specs should give you something to go by. If any of the threads are aluminum then be careful not to overtighten and strip them. Since they are exhaust manifold bolts, antisieze is probably a good idea in which case you are lubricating the threads and that reduces the maximum torque you would apply with your tq wrench.
If you're mechanically inclined and know how to turn a wrench, I don't think actual tq #'s are that important so just get it tight enough and tighten it evenly so it doesn't leak. It's just an exahust manifold. Probably go a hair tighter than you would a spark plug. And if any of the threads are aluminum, or stainless, then a thread lubricant is a good idea.

Thanks, I'll check out the link.

I am inclined and was about to do it like you said. But I wasn't sure if leakage could be an issue, especially in the water.

Thanks again for the reply.
