I am trying to wire a tilt and trim unit on my boat. It have the pump and motor than came unhooked with the boat. It has a single solenoid on the motor with yellow, blue, and red wires already connected from the motor to solenoid and other wire connector. I have a black wire coming from the solenoid that I assume is a ground and red that I assume is a positive. There is another connector of wiring coming out of a plug with a red and green wires. I am trying to determine which wires I attach for my up and down controls. I am also wondering if it should have another solenoid. Not sure what brings the motor down once it is up. Does any one have a diagram?

Thanks

You might tell us the year and hP of the motor. Some of the Mercs had a single solenoid on the external pump/resevoir housing. Is that what you have?

It is an 80 hp and not sure of the year. I would say that it is around a 1975 to 1980. It did not have the pump or motor for the TNT when I purchased the boat. I got this unit from a friend and now trying to wire it. It is a single solenoid attached to the end of the motor.

OK, There are single solenoid (up only) PTT units. You need heavier wiring for the down circuit, since it doesn't use a solenoid.

There should be a red three wire connector. This connector has a red wire( +12VDC), a Blue wire (up) and a green wire (down). You need to pushbutton switches to create a PTT control panel. Connect the red wire to both pushbuttons, and connect the up pushbutton to the blue wire and the down pushbutton to the green wire. Use 10ga wire for the green circuit and 14ga wire for the blue circuit.

just to see how the connector works. use a piece of wire to connect the horizontal slot (red wire) to one of the vertical slots. The motor should run. Black is obviously ground.

Thanks for your help. Seems simple enough once you know where the wires go.

Thanks
