Hi,
I am relatively new in this, but already got hooked with it, after going one time with a guide last month in Lake Havasu, Arizona. If anyone of you plan on going -maybe starting April '06- in any of the desert lakes (Mead, Mojave, Havasu-preferably Havasu) and don't mind me tacking along-(my boat is fine-) please shout at me....thanks!

I was on Havasu back in October. There were stripers prowling all around Windsor beach, but where I caught more of them and had a big one roll on me was up in the river. There was a huge flat along one side of hte current that was maybe 1.5-2 feet deep. Along one edge was a sand and mud ledge that dropped to about 4 feet. The stripers were killing topwater along that ledge relatively late in the morning.

P.S. I caught a couple tiny stripers down here by Yuma Saturday. I also talk to two guys who had caught larger stripers in the 5-6 lb range.

Thanks for the input Bob; looks like you are Lake Havasu's regular, aren't you?

Feel free to email me (st2216@yahoo.com if I can be your company on your next striper fishing outing to Lake Havasu!

I hadn't fished Havasu in years, and I probably won't get back up that way again until February.

There are a couple guys who fish Havasu regularly that are regulars on the forums on my website, but the guys here at iBoats get all upset when I name it. You can find it pretty quick if you do a search on bass fishing in Yuma. Most search engines will put my site near the top of the page.

Anyway, I heard that trolling huge rattle trap type baits in blue and chrome are the goto in this cold weather.

If you don't mind going a little further north on the river Todd Parker is a very good guide in the Bullhead area. He doesn't usually guide on Havasu, but you might be able talk him into it.

ST you said you went with a guide at Havasu what guide was it and how did you do fish wise. I might be going to Havasu after the holidays I am putting my outdrive back together now and will test run at silverwood this weekend if I do not have to work.

MRS,
The guide was Jim Ocker, between him and I we caught 14 stripers from 07:00 to 13:30; I would say they average 2-4 lbs. I never caught striper before, It's surprising to me how powerful they are; cause I usually caught only Trout on freshwater. So, needles to say, I enjoy striper fishing now! Here's Jim's website:

http://www.citlink.net/~jimocker/

If you're interested in going striper fishing, let me know, maybe we can have one planned.

ST, like I said if I do not work this weekend will test run boat at silverwood and if it works good then will go back to fish during the holiday vacation. Have you ever fished silverwood they have a good number of stipers in there maybe we can hook up for a trip there then. :D P.S. Thanks for guide info.....

MRS,
I went to Silverwood only once, with wife and kid, over some 20 yrs ago; didn't fish then. I heard lake Skinner has stripers too, never fish there either; did you know if lake Skinner allowed 2 strokes motor?

By the way, after looking at those pictures from Jim Ockley's guide site, were those fish big enough to you?? What size excatcly would you consider BIG? (As you can see, those were about the average size that Jim would want to take for his clients in Lake Havasu.)

ps. I am currently repairing my 9.9 Yamaha kicker, someone still managed to hit my kicker while my boat was tucked in nicely (like you would place a baby) inside a slip in Lake Havasu; do you believe that?

ST, Skinner I do not think allows 2-stroke motors any more they are just like dimond lake same rules. I can believe some one hit your motor at Havasu was it at lake havasu marina thats where we launch all the time nice ramp but people are crazy there I never go to Havasu on holidays to nuts for me. But really love to fish Havasu and hang out on the lake good luck with your kicker motor talk to you later.
