Looking to put a trolling motor on my 18' cc sea pro. anyone have any suggestions on what length shaft and thrust? Im looking at the 80lb thrust and probably the 60" shaft. im not sure if the 50" shaft will be long enough.

I have already decided to go with hand tiller. Best suits my boating needs.
Leaning towards one of these.... any comments on either?

80# should be adaquate . Shaft length depends on mounting height. Basicly, you measure from the mounting surface (front deck assumed) to the waterline and add 12" to keep the prop submerged is average conditions. You'll also need a few inch's for the head to clear the mount. It's better to be too long vs. too short on a bow mount as you don't want the prop cavitating/ breaking free as you try to move in a chop/swell. Also consider that you'll want the tiller at a comfortable height while your standing in the bow. ( Not so much an issue wth remote controlled units.) My guess is that both of the units you mentioned will work nicely. I'd still measure twice and buy once though.

FWIW, Just bought the MK RT 55 hand stear myself.

Why not go with a power drive unit instead of a hand tiller? Here's how I mounted a 55 lb Minn Kota in my 18' Celebrity I/O

Since your boat is a CC, I would place the mount more in line with the hand rail instead of straight back like I did in my open bow. ( for when it's not in use)

The powerdrive is always an option. I was wanting something with minimal wires and stuff laying around so i was leaning toward the hand tiller. i plan to take the motor off at times with quick release because i use the boat for many different things.

How did you make your mount? Is that bow rail parts you used? got any closer pics of the mount?

Hi. I'm very interested in seeing the design of your trolling mount. I'm looking to build one to save money and like how you raised yours. What length shaft did you go with too?
