I am retiring Mrs Boomyal's old Toshiba laptop and we are giving it to a 'starving student' friend of Missy Boomyal. It is running 98SE.

I've cleaned it all out but cannot figure how to get Mrs Boomyals name off of the Outlook Express 'inbox' and how to get my name off the login name.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wow, Win98. It's been awhile. As for outlook express, open the options menu and look for a button called "accounts" I think. Follow the boxes and delete everything. That should remove all the account info. The inbox files will stay unless you deleted them. I think they reside in the c:\program files\msoffice\outlook\ something like that. Maybe do a file search for *.pst or *.pab and delete those files from the hard drive.

As for removing the logon name you'll have to go to the control panel and there should be an icon there for "users", not sure but I think you can delete any user account there. The user account is probably linked to network settings of some sort. Probably dial up. You may have to remove any dial up networking as well.

Man it's been awhile since I used 98.

Why not just format C and reload Windows.
That way you can be sure nothing is lurking in a dusty corner of your hard drive.
Also very quick.

After sitting up all night watching this stupid thing Defrag? You must be crazy RP. :p Every few percent it would say 'drive has changed', then start all over again.

Actually, maybe not a bad idea.

I did forget about that Xcusme, but as luck would have it, it was not turned on and defrag still acted that way. It was a pretty puny little hardrive too.

also go to run then type msconfig. Use selective startup and shut down as many programs as you can before doing defrag. Seems to me system tray is the only one you need to keep active when doing defrag.
