Ok i've had this thing for 25+ years and I dont know what it is or what it's worth. I have never had it in the water or had an engine on it, just trying to gather some info on it. It's 8' long single seater and is fiberglass with a bronze bottom. I'm not sure how big of and engine it can handle? any info would be great on it

Thanks
-Dave

Wow!! Looks like a teen's dream.

Only a guess, but I think a 9.9 would make her fly.

100_6190.jpgSince it has wheel steering, I would guess that it was designed for a 18-20 HP engine. However, with that much HP, it probably will do 35 or more. ALWAYS wear a PFD and be extra careful. small boats like these --even with modest horsepower-- tend to be unforgiving of operator error and will quickly bite you in the a**. Here is a 10 footer with a 55 on it. It tops out at about 45 MPH. Note the PFD I'm wearing. I have flipped this boat on three different occasions.

BTW: If you hull does not have flotation foam, put some in. A LOT! If it does have flotation, add more. Fill every available nook and cranny ( No, not a Thomas' English muffin commercial) Too much flotation is never enough!

The hull was probably originally designed as a class racer. For info, try the guys over at scream&fly or hydroracer. They told me about my 10 footer.

Re: need some info on my mini boat

I have seen boats very similar to that raced somewhere and they were running very modified big outboards and really flew down the course. I think what you have may be a smaller copy of what I saw though.
I am not sure I would want to drive one! Even water hurts when you hit it at speed, been there and done that on skis!

I've never seen one like that raced, but I have ridden them as a kid at a couple of fairs, and a go-kart/bumper-boat/speedboat amusment center Upstate New York. They had small O/B's and throttle blocks on the steering wheels. The steering wheels weren't full circle. They were the bow-tie style, and the throttle was on the right side with a bar clamped underneath so the throttle could not be fully engaged. The boats went very slowly, but it was a lot of fun for 8-12 year olds.

the bronze bottom is a curiousity for me. Never heard of one. Where are you located--maybe lots of rocks?

We sued to see little racers like that around the river; a friend's dad used to make them like he did when he was a boy, but usually wood or wood frame.

Re: need some info on my mini boat

Is that a metal bottom or is it just paint? Popular Mechanics had plans for build your own racer like that back in the 60's and I built one that looked an awful lot like that. It flew with just a 5hp on it. I will bet it weighed less than 150 lbs. I don't recall what I ever did with that thing. It was a teenager's dream though.
