This motor is a 87' 40 hp johnson. I'm looking to make it into control motor instead of the tiller. Is there any place that sells a kit? Is there anyone who has actually done this?

Crazy, isn't it? People go out of their way to get a somewhat special tiller motor, then want to convert it to remote. But OMC was way ahead of them. The kit is part number 0397931.

Go to http://shop.evinrude.com/ and click on Electronic Parts Catalog. Then select OB Accessories from the drop-down list that defaults to "Evinrude".

Nope, I've never converted one. Matter of fact, I've never seen a tiller model either.

a few years ago, I fished the reef off San Pedro Cay, Belize, in a wooden skiff with two rude 40 tillers...the guide just stood there between the motors with one hand on each.

I would not call it going out of my way, I bought the motor because it runs and was $100. Is a 40 hp tiller from that year rare? If so, I might consider fixing it up and selling it.

Hey did you ever do the conversion? I am thinking about doing the same thing with the same exact motor and would really appreciate any insight into how this went time and money-wise. Thanks
