I have a 14ft alluminum V Hull row/fishing boat that has never been registered and I wasn't given any real paperwork when I bought it. I'd love to get it registered and put an outboard on it. I can not find the HIN anywhere. No transom tag. Can't find a hidden one "yet". It has the Coast Guard tag inside as well as the manufacturer tag with SF 14 O/B and weight/HP capacity. I was told it is a 1974 Seafarer and I have seen so far 2 1974 seafarer's that are identicle. I have been turned down for a HIN due to not having hard proof of year, make, and model. Any ideas??? Anyone know of a hidden HIN????

You didn't say where you're from, but I can tell you here in GA, there is an "affadavit of boat ownership" where you swear that the boat is not stolen and that it didn't have a HIN when you got it. It's then notorized, and a HIN is issued to you. It's then inspected by a cop, and official after that.

Sounds like you've tried that route in your above post. I'd imagine there has to be a way to register such a boat, you just have to do some more research on your state's laws. Actually talking with a person from the DNR (or whomever handles your registration) sometimes helps - they might tell you of some work-around that's not "official".
