Having an issue with tilt/trim....I can push the button for up and down and they both make noise like its trying to work but wont go up...i had a similar issue and replaced the relay plugs and it worked but that was when the tilt/trim wasnt making any noise while pushing the buttons. (new relay plugs within the last year) it has tilt/trim fluid. (93 johnson 225hp ocean runner)

Anybody with any input? When i push the up button, It moves up about an inch and then acts like its trying to keep moving but doesnt go any farther. My dad is coming down soon and im trying to get it ready to take him out fishing.

first of all is it up or down right now?

if it is down you need to raise it up and put it on the "trail lock" to check the fluid.

to do this you have to locate the manual release valve on the lower part of the port (left) transom bracket......only turn this screw 1-1.5 turns due to a retainer clip.........and do not be any where close to the motor when releasing the manual release valve ...those engs are heavy.

if this is not the prob then post back the position your eng is stuck in.

the engine is up far enough to have the "trail lock" set. (i guess thats what it is called when you put the engin up and turn the lever so the when you lower the engine back down, it holds the engine up a bit) when i push the up button, it raises about an inch and then just makes the noise like its going but the engine doesnt actually move anywhere.

The trail locks are the heavy steel braces that you manually swing into place to hold the engine up while trailering. The engine must be tilted further and the trail locks released to lower the motor. Please click the thumbnail. Some 225 models have "trail arms" rather than the locks, but thay function the same.

When you try to raise the motor, are the trim rams extended or not?

if your trim rams are extended and it is already on the lock it will only go up about another inch or so ....just enough to allow you to release the lock.

Re: NEED QUICK HELP! tilt/trim q

seems like it doesnt have enough strength...when i push up and lift the engine with my hand, it moves but barely. when i push the button to go down it moves easily because of the weight...but 1 thing different, the fluid was coming out of the fill hole (cap on) i think maybe when my girlfriend was trying to help me, she didnt put the cap on right and that might be the problem. anyone have any input?
