I have a 200hp OX66 saltwater series Yamaha on a 22' deep V. Total weight of outfit wet is 3700lbs. The prop (has a M16 stamped on it) size that is on it currently is unknown. WOT is 5700 at 37mph. Acceleration is neck breaking and it seems that motor is not realy working to hard and would like to increase MPG and top speed, any suggestions.

A 17 inch pitch 3 bladed stainless prop should be about right.

I would say 5800 is to high of RPM and the suggesttion for a 17 or even possibly a 19 pitch would work, if you can turn the engine 5300-5500, with a 19 you should gain 6-9mph.

16 is underpitched

Find what your wot rpm range is supposed to be at and prop from there. Under or over propping will kill your engine. Also blade type is important too. If your hull seems to plow in the water you need a prop that gives bow lift, like a Chopper or related prop. If your stern is riding too low then you need a cleaver type blade to lift the stern. I would guess a 200 hp should be in the 5500 to 6000 rpm range. You want to find a prop that puts you in the right power band once you are there you can fine tune performance.

Good Luck!!
