Hello,
Hoping somebody outhere with a manual can help me out. I have an '87 28HP SPL Evinrude. E28ECLCUC I need to purchase a new prop for it. It is on a 16' Aluminum Bass boat.
Trying to figure out what size prop I need. The darn thing that is on there now looks like a tiny 7' prop. Everywhere I have looked they recommend a 9". As far as pitch goes I think I will go with a standard work type prop.

Any help wold be great!
DeadPaisly@hotmail.com

Re: Need prop help for 28hp Evinrude

According to the OMC propeller selector guide your rig will either require a 10 1/2 X 12(p/n 380637) or a 10 1/2 X 13 (384460)prop.These are aluminum props.There is also a 10 3/8 X 15 available.
Your final selection should be based on the one that will allow your engine to operate within the factorys recommended rpms at WOT.
I recommend use of OMC propellers for your engine ,however there are some other manufaturers props that will cross reference.

Wkoch
OB is correct about finding the WOT for the correct pitch. I have a 89' 28HP and I would suggest you start with the 12" pitch. A 9" will definitly over-rev the engine. You can always get a prop shop to take it up or down 2 inches in pitch to fine tune it if nessesary. That will effectively give you a range from 10" in pitch to 14" in pitch to play with.

Flahthead
Dropping the lower unit on that motor is a breeze. If you have the Manual and the pump kit(Below), you should be done in a couple of hours. No surprises or anything like that.
web page

Rick is correct .9" not 10 ".I was looking at the wrong prop list for the older 28 hp.
