hi, I have a 1970 SeaRay 17 footer with a 1974 Johnson 85 hp, and I need to get a new prop. What should I go for? The current one is very chipped and dinged, but its a 13" diameter and labeled Michigan SPO 219. What does this mean? I want a prop that will give me a good mix between hole-shot and top end. Thanks

You will want to target 5800 rpm (with an average load) for overall performance and life of the engine. It would help to know what rpm youre turning now so you will know which direction to head.

Good luck!

Re: Need prop advice

13.25X17" should be a good starting point.
I'm not familuar with any 13.75X19" to fit that engine.....to my knowledge...eerrr, backup...yea, there is, but those long-eared newer style are more suited to the newer "loopers"...That 19" won't get close to 5800r's on that boat. I'd guess 5000-5200r's on the 19" but I'm sure I'll be proven wrong. :D
Try the 13.25X17"-I think that will be the closest prop for ya.......good luck :)
