The winch strap on my winch looks old near the hook. Just to be safe I will replace it. The boat is a 19 footer, weighs 2350 empty. One strap I saw is 2" x 20', has 10,000 lb breaking strength and 4000 lb working load. Would this strap be the one I should have?

Just cut the last foot off it and tie it to the hook with a bowline, it's what you'd do if it broke at the ramp and you had no spare, right? It's only the last foot that ages because the rest is shaded by being rolled up on the winch spool. Why throw away 19 feet of good strap?

You will likely never pull more than 1000 lbs on the strap getting it back onto the trailer.
You are only sliding it, Not lifting it.
Your proposed strap will be more than sufficient.
Straps are cheap and easily replaced.

If you have a recycling urge; Cut off the bad part,
Lightly melt the fresh end with a lighter to prevent unraveling,
And sew it back together.

Strap material is thick but it is also fairly soft.
A good home sewing machine with a heavy needle run slowly may handle it.
A local shoe repair shop may be willing to sew it for a few bucks and the novelty of the job.

You can pick up a nice heavy duty one at tractor supply for under 20.00

For 15 or 20 bucks I will feel safer with a new one. It never hit me that I will only be sliding around 1000 lbs. Thanks for the info guys.
