I'm thinking of buying a 2000 Mercury 250 EFI to replace my 1999 225 Optimax which my mechanic says isn't worth repairing. Does anyone know the history of the EFI outboards and if they are any good or it they have any inherent problems with that technology. I've been searching the web to find some history on them but so far no luck. Any help is appreciated, Brian, 1990 Grady White 228 Seafarer, looking for a new used motor.

-They would be more reliable than that year Optimax. They are good motors. You can always part the Optimax out too.

I agee more reliable but not as fuel friendly ,will burn a little less than a carb engine. If its a XB series its a gas hog!!!
