Need info on Stursa boat

I was given a boat that I have so far only been able to id as a 1972 Stursa. The transom was rebuilt so if the HIN was there it is gone now. This is approx. 16 to 19 foot outboard speed boat. The info I do have was provided by Dept. of motor vehicle based on the state registration number. The boat was abandoned and towed by a friend of mine, he did not want it and gave it to me. I am going to apply for a salvage title if I can determine if the boat is worth the effort. It does not have a motor although the controls are there. They are Johnson controls. How can I find out what size motor I can put on it? The boat is solid and in decent shape so I hate to cut it up and take it to the dump! Any info will ne appreciated. TIA.

I happen to live in Owatonna but have only been here four years. I'll ask around to see if I can get any information. Perhaps someone has a brochure tucked away that they would part with.

Re: Need info on Stursa boat

Stopped at the local coffee shop this morning and asked the owner if he new about Stursa and he replied "certainly" -- I bought some parts from them but they were for a different brand of boat. The building they used for the factory is not far from where I live so I'll take a picture of it. They went out of business in 2005. If I can determine who owns the building I'll see if they would concent to a short visit to look for a brochure and and then take a few pictures for you. I also spoke with a freind that knows a teacher with the last name Stursa. I'll check the phone book and also do an internet search of the name. Hang in there -- this may take awhile. Post some pictures of your boat so I know what I'm looking for. There may be other boats like it in the area.

Re: Need info on Stursa boat

Thank you very much, I went over this boat pretty thoroughly today and I could find NO documentation whatsoever. The boat has been repainted and the transom was rebuilt so I am sure it looked a lot different when new. I don't know how to post pictures on here and to be honest I almost lost this site! If you send me an e-mail address I will send some pictures. Send it to my e-mail at rickf1985@comcast.net
I really appreciate the trouble you are going to for me. The only real problem I found with this boat so far, besides no engine is the floor under the front area, infront of the dash, is rotted out. This is probably because it was stored nose down and water just laid in there. It was actually full of water when I got it. It is not trailer sunk though. My biggest concern is determining what size motor to put on it. Thanks again.
