Hey, I have a 73 glastron carlson cv-19 jet boat, it has a 455 olds motor and a berkeley jet drive. i was just given this boat but the motor will not turn over. I want to know if I can remove the motor and jet drive as one unit and if I can't does anyone know the best way to remove them. This is my first boat and am just now learning about boats in general. I do know auto mechanics and principles. thank for the help jim

Welcome to iBoats!

Bond! James Bond!! That's a very desirable and unique boat!!! Jet Drive mounts to the transom similar to an outdrive on a standard I/O setup. Remove it first and then remove the motor.

Actually WOG not completely correct the Berkley jet drive has external parts but does not bolt onto the transom it has a plate that seals the transom opening that must be removed but the jet drive bolts tot he intake which is bolted/fiberglassed into the bottom of the hull.

The short answer is they can not be removed together, you must unbolt the engine from the hull, it will usually have either a 4 point attachment system which means it attaches at the from corners and rear corners of the motor to the stringers or rail attached to the stringers or it is a three point mount which is mounted at the front to the stringers and at the back to the jet drive. Get some pictures and I can help you out. If it is a 4point then unbolt those and any driveshaft cover going to the jet drive if there is one then the drive shaft should have a slip yoke to the jetdrive that will slide right out you lift the motor and slide it forward then remove. 3 point mount is the same just have to unbolt the belhousing rear mount from the jet drive first.

Re: need info on motor removal

Thanks for the warm welcome. I have decided to pull the engine apart anyways and go through it . It's been sitting a long time and I would rather tear it down and know it's up to par before ever going on the water. I will get pictures this weekend and post them. I am replacing the seats, carpet and other trim also. this is my first boat and I'm looking forward to getting it on the water this summer. thanks again and I'll check the sites you all mentioned Jim
