Need Info on kicker motor...........

Hi All,<br /> The family and I took our boat out for the first time yesterday and had a great time until the motor quite and the whole boat went dead. I knew it was electrical so I started looking, found nothing! Closed the motor cover and the ventalition fan came on. I had power again so I started the motor and off we went to the dock. Got home and started checking things out, found the negitave battery post connection was loose. Tightened it up and everything works fine. My questions are, Can you join a club like AAA only for boaters in case you need help when your on the water? Can a small kicker motor be put on my boat? Boat is an 86 Glassport 16.5ft. Fiberglass open bow with a 120 hp I/O Mercruiser? I also have been studying to take the Ohio boaters safety course and I need to get a distress flag. Where can I get one at? Thanks for any and all info............ Larry

I'm new to boats and boating but here are a couple things: have at least two batteries in good condition. A kicker motor workes for me but they add weight and can be in the way if you don't really use it. Assuming you have good battery power, a quality electric trolling motor would make a good backup.

Yes, there is a club like AAA for boaters.<br /><br />One is called Sea Tow, and also if you have West Marine stores near you, or check online at www.westmarine.com they have a tow insurance package also.<br /><br />Boat US also has one.<br /><br />Check um out. About $99 a year for unlimited tow.
