Need any info on an Evinrude 9.9 model# 9122R Serial# Jo7634. Also looking for manual and prop suggestions. Motor will be used to push a 21 foot sailboat. Need tips on general care. Motor runs well but looks bad. would like to repaint. Thanks in advance, the help i recieved for a 1956 Johnson was invaluable. You people know your stuff.!!
Jim

OMC made a 4 blade prop specifically for heavy loads for the 9.9 motor. Part Number is OMC 176266. New one is still available. See: OMC Props

However, the Model number you have given is for the 9.5HP Model

9122 is a 1971 2cyl. 9.5 HP Rude. It weighs 60 pounds. The prop it came with is a 8 1/8 x 8.

web page

web page 2

I'd go with this one:

8 X 7 3Blade ALUMINUM '64 - '73 GENERAL USAGE OMC 387334 $53.95 $46.00 off that link.

Have not seen the Admiral, Rickdb1boat make a bad call yet, so use the prop he recommended.

Thanks for the info! anyone have any idea on the manual for the motor. I believe I have the stock prop. Will the 8x7 give me more speed. Boat and gear are probably close to 1800#s. I have used the motor on this boat and gotten about 7mph
Thanks

Re: need info, manual for ev. 9.9

The lower pitch (7) gives you more working power, not speed. This reduces the load on the engine, and, ideally, allows you to work within a higher RPM range at which the motor produces it's best performance - 4,000 to 5,000 RPM for the 9.5HP.

Under perfect conditions, the pitch indicates the number of inches forward that the boat would move for each revolution of the prop.

Obviously, pushing any 21' boat with 9.5HP is not perfect, or you would be traveling at about 33 miles per hour.

Exactly what ezeke said. It will keep you in the correct RPM range. Not much gain in speed, but will run better and last longer! :)

Oh yeah, the Manual:

Factory Manual:

web page

Parts catalog is good to have also. Gives all part numbers so you don't have to search for them.

Thanks again for all the help. I ordered the manuals. Anyone know where a used prop might be? Anything to watch out for in this motor? How hard is the impeller change in this one.
Thanks again.
jim
:)

You could check E-Bay, but they are so cheap new, it's hardly worth the effort to find a used one. By the time you pay shipping, it will be close to the $46.00 new one. Plus, with the new one, you know what you are getting.... Impeller is easy, once you have the manual and iboat members to help you along. ;)

E-Bay Props
