Hello everybody, good afternoon. Last evening I stumbled upon a 2007 Honda 4stroke 8hp outboard. When I went to look at motor it looked squeaky clean, other then minor scratches etc etc. However when I pulled the pull cord engine was frozen, manually turned the motor by hand and then the motor pull pulled fine and we had nice spark. Checked inside the plug hole it was rusty inside the chamber and pistons. However top plug looked fine, lower plug had rusty threads and brownish rust on electrode. Went to check spark on lower plug and again motor was locked and had to be spun by hand to get to pull with cord.
Owner claimed it was a stuck valve. I walked away and told him I was uninterested. However within 5 minutes of leaving he offered it to me for 400 cash - is this worth it? Rust on inside of motor? The engine being locked? Seems motor may have been submerged. I told him I'd give an answer by end of the day.
