My father in law can't find a starter for his motor. It is a 400 el Mercury serial # 1391046. If anyone can tell us where we can find one it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Gee, I could not find a year for that motor. How many cylinders does it have? ARCO was a major aftermarket supplier of starters.

Does the engine presently have one that isn't working, or did it ever have one? Because if you presently have one that isn't working, he could have it rebuilt at a starter and alternator repair shop... JMHO!

That would be a 4 cylinder motor , a very nice motor.----Marketed in 1961 and was equipped with electric start and alternator.----Finding a good used starter depends on your location.---There is always " Flea-Bay " too.

We r located in oxford,ms. We were trying to figure out the year and hp. He says he thinks it is a 60 but he can't find any info on it. He bought a starter off of old mercs and it was too big. The rebuild shop said they couldn't rebuild it for some reason.he has been trying to find one for a couple months with no luck

Too bad you are over a 1000 miles away.---If you could walk over I have a bunch of those starters.---Don,t give up as I think they should be easy to find.----Perhaps take it apart and clean it up , install new brushes.-----Search / post on the ---aomci----website.---Look for -----johnsoldmercury ----website.-----As far as I am concerned this should be easy to solve. !!!
