I dont have much experience in repairing marine motors but I am very mechanical. I went to take my boat out 1/10 and notice that when I started the motor it was not peeing. I'm fairly new to owning my boat so I'm learning as I go. A friend told me it was due to a bad impeller. I tried to unclog but didn't help. Still no pee.

My motor is a Honda four stroke 45 hp and I guess my question is, is it hard to replace myself or should I make that expensive phone call?

Also, One thing I noticed when I got the boat back home, there was a puddle of green substance right under where the motor was sitting. Almost, directly under where the prop was. Any ideas what that might have been???

Any advice would be great.

Re: Need Help

? tried to unclog what ? the true test for an overheat issue is to run the motor up to temp and see if you can lay your hands on the cylinder head...no = overheat...yes = circulation issue/clogged pee hole

You should drain and change the oil in the lower unit, then you can see if that "green stuff" is the same or has water in it. What does it smell like? Same as l/u oil? Then you may have a prop shaft seal leaking. The water pump is not a difficult job if all the bolts come out easy. Most Hondas have a disconnect nut/& jam nut about half way down the leg for the gear shift. If it is in reverse, you can get at it easier.
