I have a 1989 Skeeter with a merc xr4 150. The engine will not trim up or down. When I push the trim bottom it just makes a loud clicking sound coming from the engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Re: Need help with trim problem

Jeff, That clicking sound is the trim solenoid connecting (or trying to connect). Put a voltmeter on the wire that runs from the trim solenoid to the trim pump and hit the trim button. When the solenoid clicks, you should then have voltage to the motor. if not, you may have a bad solenoid. if you have voltage, you may have a bad motor or motor ground.

Re: Need help with trim problem

I had the same problem trim up or down just clicks but the motor wont spin. I pulled the top off the trim motor and the brushes were trash... one wire broken to one brush. I researched and locally found brushes for my trim motor for $3.00. I took the pump apart last night cleaned it soldered in the new brushes and it works. The motor anyway... I'll put new oil in it tonight but fully expect it to work fine. My pump took brush p/n 18-8989. yours may be different depending on your pump but google it and it will be there.

HAHAHAHAHA! I'm stoked!
