Need help with Trim, 7.4 Volvo Penta

Hi, first post but have been lurking for a while... Here is my question:

I have a 99 Cobalt 232, 7.4 Volvo Penta with the Dou-Prop. My trim gauge has stopped working??? I'm wondering what the best way to troubleshoot this is. I would think that it has to be either the gauge or the sending unit... I am pretty mechanically inclined, I have a meter but I'm just not sure what to look for to figure out the problem. If anybody can help me out that would be great...

It's probably the sender on the drive. I have a picture of the troubleshooting process at home that I will post for you this evening.
Or, you could get the OEM service manuals.
