Hi. Ski season is over, but we just bought a 1962 Glasspar in great shape. I would like to set it up better for skiing. I don't really want to hook the ski/tube rope on the D/lifting rings on the transom as that keeps your rope so low to the water. Neither do I want to add a traditional 3 point ski pylon as it would just be in my way with the outboard motor. Has anyone seen one of the old style loop ski pylons? They are attached onto the transom on both sides of the outboard and fold up and over the motor when in use. If anyone knows anything about these--good idea/bad idea/ where I could get one, or even what they are actually called! There is a boat that just sold on ebay if someone would like to look and see what I'm talking about. Just go to ebay and enter item # 250507208736 and look at the back of the boat. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks so much, and Have a Great Day!

Re: Need help with ski pylon!

I just looked at the eBay boat you referenced. I've never seen one like that. It looks like it pivots at the top of the transom so the legs brace against the transom under load?

It looks to me like it would be OK for pulling a skier if not too aggressive and the pull was kept pretty much directly behind the boat. It doesn't look like it would withstand side to side loads well and would bend and fold up like lawn furniture under the heavier loads of pulling a tube.

The working height of this would need to be above the motor just like a pylon correct? 3-point pylons that I have installed on outboards ahead of the splash well have quick release pins so they are quite easy to remove if you don't want it in all the time.
