Hi River rat<br /> All Sears Elgin motors with model#s begining with 571 were built by West Bend. Your 1 1/4 was made in 1946. Point gap is .020 and the mix is 3/4 pint oil to the gal of gas.Your motor uses Champion J12J plugs gapped @.040.

Thanks Alcan, information is a big help. Hard to believe this little mtr. is so old. I'm thinking I've got to drop the foot to add/change the lube, any idea what I should use?

You do not have to drop the foot in order to change gear oil. Use 90wt gear oil. The drain and fill screws my be behind the prop. On some models the screws the hold the gear case head on are also drain an fill. You should be able to see whats going on when you remove the prop.
