Hello all. New to the site and hoping to get some much needed help ive been looking for before calling the repair man.

I have a older suzuki 200 v6 12 plug motor. Ive had intermendant problems with the motor. It sat for about a year (the boat did) and i just got it going again. I took the boat out once at the begining of the year and when i went to get on plane or applied any throttle the motor would die. We got it back home checked the gas (it was good) pulled the carbs (3 carbs all clean but cleaned them anyway) and re assemembled. Took it back out and ran great, i was tickled pink.

Well i burned through that tank of gas that day (i hadnt put ANY fuel in since it had sat for a year) and i went to go out and enjoy my day again. Filled the tank before going and sure enough motor didnt want to take any throttle. I slowly got it up on plane after about 20 starts and it ran fine. Got where i was going and fished, went to leave some issue.

All i can think was mabye there was trash in the tank and now ive stired it all up buy putting new fuel in? Some help would be greatly appreciated guys. Oh here is the motor.

ive got this thing narrowed down to mabye 4 diffrent things. carb rebuild, carb sync, TPS or the fuel pump. the plugs are new and gapped correctly and all have spark when cranking. spark does look a little weak but the same through out and i dont generally work on outboard so im not real sure about that. where and what should i attack first? granted all theese parts wouldnt hurt to be replaced but i really dont want to have to buy a part that is still good.

also the motor does smoke pretty good on startup and i do have a manual.

I think you still have carburetor issues. I would certainly try a very large dose of SeaFoam in an attempt to clean things up since the high speed jets are not apparently totally clogged. But be warned, it is lean condition that causes severe engine damage. You said you cleaned the carbs but did you totally disassemble them and ensure every jet, nook, and cranny was squeaky clean?

carb parts are soaking except the floats and plastic parts. here is a plug i pulled today. plug is a little under a year old with prolly less than 2 hours on it. also pulled the fuel filter which has been pulled recently and there was some small amounts of trash in there that just got in there recently.

Re: need help with my suzuki dt200 v6 PLEASE!

carbs reassembled, synced and idle screws set. took it out to the water. it was a little tough to get going at first but finally got it up and going and ran great we got to 55 mph on the gps 3/4 of the way trimed up. now i have a new issue.

i have a leak down issue where after i stop i loose the pressure in the prime bulb. im thinking it may be the fuel filter cause it feels to me the resevoir never really gets tight before it goes loose again. the threads look fine (plastic) but it cant get super tight, like its been striped.

any good suggestions on a good filter/water seperator and a good fuel shut off switch? mabye like one with everything?

Hellow i hope i can help.I had same issue.First does your primer ball go flat (soft) during running. My problem was a screen filter in my pickup tube at the tank.Try using a seperate fuel tank ie 6 gallon tank.Install a good fuel water seperator.Check oil sensor under oil tank it will lower rpm due to oil starvation if clogged.Check timing advance switch at lower carb( manual will tell you ohms ).

This is normal, the fuel bulb will lose pressure as soon as the engine starts to pull fuel on its own. The bulb should not flatten, however...

What kind of fuel are you using? Suzuki motors require 91 octane minimum with low ethanol. A lot of gas stations that are close to lakes will sell this type of fuel, i.e. Boat fuel.

Re: need help with my suzuki dt200 v6 PLEASE!

I'll preface my comments by saying that there's no certainty that the problem I've had to address with my 150 is the same one that you're having, just that the symptoms you describe are similar to those that I've had with my Suzuki outboard. I have a 2001 DT150. Has less than 150 hours on it, but has run like a dog all of it's life. Initially I only had problems with the motor bogging down, when I first attempted to get up on plane. The motor would warm up, at fast idle, and perform as one might expect. Over the years, the problem of it bogging down seemed to get worse. I had the outboard serviced, according to what was recommended by the Mfg., and mentioned the problem to the svc. department, each time that I took it in. They kept stringing me along, telling me that the culprit was the design of how the oil was delivered to the fuel, and that I needed to make sure to run it in fast idle in order to burn off the oil that had "loaded up" while the engine was not in use. In June of this year, the symptoms became worse. During a trip to the Laguna Madre, the engine exhibited the same problems that you describe. It could never generate enough power to get on plane and cut out, once I ran the throttle to full. I took it to a trusted shop. Upon testing the outboard in their tank, the powerhead siezed and the engine could not be restarted. After opening up the power head, it was descovered that 3 of the cylinders were full of water. No obvious indication on how the water had gotten there. It's been 9 weeks, but they finally determined that the water came in through the "Lock Gasket". After my shop did some digging, they found that these 2-stroke Suzukis are notorious for this problem. Apparently, it can be prevented by torquing the bolts that hold the gasket, on an annual basis. However, they said that Suzuki has not mentioned this in their suggested maintenence. The fact that the authorized Suzuki dealers that I was initially taking the motor to had never pinpointed this as a problem, would suggest that they weren't familiar with it (or didn't care). I'm out nearly $2,500 for repair on my outboard. Not sure if yours is running poorly because of the same problem, but it sure would be worth looking at before yours is damaged to the extent mine was. Might save some time/money, in the long run.

Try replacing the primer bulb. If valves in primer bulb are not working properly it will starve the engine of fuel when you open the throttle. Also diaphrams inside the fuel pumps might be defective. When engine begins to starve, go to the back and pump the bulb furiously for about 10 seconds. If RPM's pick up then you know its a fuel delivery problem.
