Here is the situation.
1974 Johnson, 85hp. I am replacing the reeds and going with Boyensen reeds. I have talked to people on here as well as a Boyensen reed tech. person on the phone. I am unsure what size jets I will need since I have replaced the stock carbs a while back. The carbs I have now have two numbers stamped on them. The numbers on top of the carbs are: 324859 , and the numbers on the front of the carbs are 324369. I am not sure, but I think these may have came off a 115 hp Johnson, since I bought them used. The jets are .30. The tech said I would need to downsize 5 sizes, but these are not stock jets.
I dont know what size jets came in the orginal carbs, or even the factory jets were still in.
Based on this information, the reeds are going on a 85hp engine, what size jets should I use?
Thanks again.

Re: Need help with Jet sizing on carbs.

If they are Idle air bleeds, drop 3 sizes, if they are Idle FUEL jets, go UP 5 sizes....doesn't matter what the carbs are off of, the V4's all require the same rejetting. The jets are more for the carb than for the engine application, if that makes sense...

This type of carb below would show the idle air bleeds, item #7.

If so, then that is NOT what I need, I need the idle FUEL jets since my carbs are NOT like the one in the above picture. My jets come in from the sides, two on the top (idle fuel jets) and two on the bottom.
Thanks.
