I just picked up a 1964 15' sears fiberglass boat in a trade which has an evinrude 35hp lark on the back

The previous owner told me it runs but it won't run on low idle. I've had it out on the water 3 times now and it's been more of a hassle than a pleasure!!

Okay so it takes a bunch of pulls to get the engine to even start and I have to start it in gear and slam the throttle into fast just to move. If I try to start it in neutral, it will stall out when I bring he throttle low enough to shift into gear...

Sorry if this is a poor description of my problem, this is my first boat so I'm don't really know all the terms... Pretty much the engine wont start nor run on any throttle setting lower than "start" which is how I have been controlling the boat is from the throttle on the engine itself...

Model number of the 35hp? There's a lot of 35hp engines out there.

Assuming you have compression and proper spark.... you're describing a engine that has a fouled, clogged carburetor. Remove, clean, and rebuild it as needed.

Thanks joe,

I'll get that model number today as well as pulling he plugs out and doing a compression/spark test
