Need help with buying used tilt/trim unit..

guys im looking into buying a used tilt/trim off merc..150.its already off the motor.is this easy to check. Can i just take the ground wire and ground it and touch each lead(blue and green) to positive of battery without soleniods to see if it works before i buy it..

Yes that will work here's the schematic for hook up
and I had mine stop working Sunday because the brushes were gone so when you buy it take the end cap off and check the brushes and maybe clean the commutator with very fine emery cloth.
