My friend has a 1974 or at least that the best guess as to what he has because we are going off the year of the boat.

He has sterndrive unit with a 250 Chevy engine and the problem is with the trim sending unit,on his boat it use's hinge pins that have to be taken out with a slide hammer and you have to drive out 2 smaller pins as well.

The problem is on his outdrive the trim sending unit's don't mount on the outside of the gimbal housing like the modern unit's.

On my friends it looks like the trim sending unit is at the top of the outdrive below the steering arm,can anyone tell me if this is a pre Alpha unit like the MC-1.

If you look at the round things in the picture those are the hinge pin's that the lower pivot's on to trim the outdrive.

no such thing as a "pre alpha". there are MC1, MC2, MC3, MR, etc.

what is your drive serial number that will tell you.

Ayuh,.... That appears to be an early MC-1,.....
Later MC-1s had the trim indicator in the up hyd. line, inside the transom,.....
I don't believe parts are available for the indicator mounted on top of the bellhousing,.....
