I have an old 1968 merc 500 outboard motor that i have been working on for two seasons now. I just replaced the distributor cap which seem to help alot. The motor starts up but after she has ran awhile and I shut it down for a bit she has a hard time starting again and stalls on take off. I'm not sure how to adjust the Air/fuel mixture needles on the carb properly and the choke seems to stay at about halfway. Is there an adjustment for the choke or how should I adjust the Air/fule mixture needles?

Setting up dual carbs is tricky stuff! Probably the best thing to do is buy a manual (you might find one on eBay), which will give you step-by-step procedures.

With regards to the choke, it sounds like it's sticking. Have you tried some carb cleaner to loosen any sticky linkages.

On those carbs the air/ fuel screws should be about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated maybe more since the age of engine as for the choke look at the nuts holding shutters on. One could be a tad tight also check the manual choke wire see if hanging up the shutters
