I replaced the gasket between the motor and the exaust chamber, put lower unit back on, now it won't shift into forward or reverse. This is the first time I have ever removed the motor. Could I have broken something?<br />The shift lever and shaft going out of the bottom of the motor casing seems to be turning fine, but it is definitely not conneting to the lower end units shift rod.(please excuse me if my terminology is not correct) I have removed the lower end to replace the water pump impeller several times, but never had a problem with the shift rod not connecting. Any suggestions on where to look first? I am trying to avoid removing the motor again. Thanks
