I am working on my winter project of upgrading my AQ125B to an AQ145B.
I do not mean changing the engine out but actually upgrading the existing engine.

The area where I am stumped is the actual oil filter nipple itself.
What are the tricks to getting it out so I can put in the longer nipple needed for the oil cooler?
This should be one of the simplest things of the project but I didn't want to just wrench on it and destroy the threads if I had to abandon.

I have been able to obtain all the components needed over time from Ebay.
I upgraded to the dual carburetor setup last year without any other changes.
This year I am upgrading with the oil cooler and most importantly the camshaft.

I was not able to get the "K" camshaft as they are pretty rare. However I did find and install a "V" cam.
This does not have quite as high a lift but it is still much better than the "A" cam that comes in the AQ125.

Once I am done with this I plan on taking the top of the outdrive off to replace the bellows and possibly the PDS bearing if I can get to it.

The nipple should just unscrew from the block.. Item # 26, http://www.volvopentastore.com/Lubr...on_id.590162916--store_id.366--view_id.784409

Sometimes there is a smooth spot where you could use grip pliers...< Or maybe covered with a rag. If not then something like the smooth plastic grippers may work such as these for example. http://toolguyd.com/kobalt-magnum-grip-pliers/

You could also try finding the correct thread size of the nipple, install two jam nuts, thread them both in place, torque them together, and then turn the inner one counter-clockwise.

Have a photo of yours?

If the above don't seem to work, what does the center hole look like? anyway to use a tool or shove something in it to grip it to remove it?

Some look like these for example, http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=14081300&FORM=HDRSC2#a

Hope you can get it out without issues , good luck.:)

The engine is in the boat so it is a little difficult to get to the nipple.
I figured from the parts list that it unscrews but I didn't know if there was a trick.

I checked the inside of the nipple and it is smooth. I have put oil coolers on small engines that had an Allen wrench form inside the nipple.
No such luck on this one.

I will try later today to take it out with some pliers and wrap the threads to see if I can protect them.

I will keep you posted on the progress.
