Symptoms (I'll try to desribe the best way I can):

Engine runs good, however, it appears that the batteries are not charging back up (I'm assuming that the 85 Force 125) that I have has an alternator or some mechanism to charge batteries?

Anyway, the batteries (I have 2 batteries) are not charging and the tach is not working.

I looked through the manual (Clymer) but couldn't find the answer and the only thing that I found that might be the cause of this weirdness is the "Rectifier/Regulator?"

Could the rectifier/regulator cause the batteries not to charge and also cause the tach to not work?

More info:

The wiring on the tach looks correct and the light on the tach works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it is indeed the rectifier/regulator, where could I get one and how hard is it to install?

Thank you!

Re: Need help troubleshooting

Sure sounds like a regulator/rectifier.
Tach troubles are typical of regulator failure.

You will find the one you need listed half way down this page, only $16. The one for my 95 70 hp is $110!!!!

http://www.outboardparts.com/chrysler/mall/chryslerforceregulators.htm

http://www.outboardparts.com/chrysler/mall/dynamic-results2.asp

Pretty simple to install. Unhook the old one, hook up the new one. Just make sure you label the wires so you don't hook them up wrong. Wrap a piece of masking tape around each one, and label them.

roscoe,
Thank you very much for your help. I ordered a new rectifier/regulator today and will post up my results later.
