Well i just purchased my first boat and i need to replace the water pump Impeller.
I Cant figure out how to take off the lower unit on the motor. I made sure to remove all the necessary hardware and even got a rubber mallet to try and loosen it up but it will not come off. I have the model number and serial number below, Any help would be much appreciated.

Model # E25TECSA
Serial # E001644

Sam,
welcome aboard.
Yes, that's a 1980 25hp Evinrude motor you got there.
Before you can remove the lower unit, you have to
disconnect the shift linkage shown below.
Its located behind the oval plate on the side of the leg.
I think you can see the other screws that need to be removed.
Post back if you need further help.
Also, I have the lower unit section of the OMC service manual for your motor.
PM me with your email address and I'll send you a copy.

There should be 4 lower unit screws that need to be taken out. Then a Bolt that is on the back of the outboard that holds the lower unit to the exhaust housing. The shift linkage as shown above also needs to be taken off, and once off then it can be removed. Just FYI, if you have already removed the bottom bolt on the linkage, and it still won't come out, then some force will be need. I've seen those stuck pretty hard in there. You can always reinsert the bottom bolt and pull the top one to see if that's easier.

Hi, jasper60103

Could you please email me the OMC service manual for this motor?
I have exactly the same problem.
My email address is lpu2009@live.com

I'm having exactly the same problem with my '81 Johnson. All 4 bolts came out easily, but the darn threaded stud on the back of the leg seems to be frozen pretty tight. Waiting for some liquid wrench to (hopefully work) and will try heating with the propane torch if that doesn't get me anywhere in a few days.

In the meantime, Jasper - any chance that I could have a look at that OMC lower unit manual as well? That would help a lot as I'm planning to rebuild the L.U. with new seals and do the water pump while I'm at it.

I'll shoot you a PM.
